Alexa Carroll is a New York City-based filmmaker. With a focus on long form stories in the narrative and documentary realm she often gravitates towards projects that she can live in. Originally coming up through the grip & electric department, Alexa developed a strong sense of lighting specifically shaped by her time on various projects with photographer Gregory Crewdson. She cut her teeth as a cinematographer working on a diverse range of projects including feature films, music videos, commercials, experimental and movement based films. From her time shooting low budget indies she has developed a strong ability to wear multiple hats, be crafty and create intimate shooting environments with minimal crew shaping the infrastructure for her own films. Alexa has four feature length projects under her belt as a cinematographer Dwelling (USA, narrative), Ave Maria (Puerto Rico, doc), Le Meilleur du Monde (Paris, narrative) and Who Killed King Mom (USA, narrative).

Though she is most comfortable behind the camera she is also a co-writer on Alison Bagnall's most recent feature film The Mendicants (Buffalo 66’, The Dish and the Spoon) and usually ends up co-editing her own projects. She is currently in post production on her first documentary feature film Simplemente Dayam, which she shot and directed over the course of three years in Oaxaca, Mexico. Her work has screened at SXSW, Tribeca Film Festival, Festival Panafricain du Cannes, Millenium Films and been selected for Vimeo Staff Picks. Alexa is an Aaton XTR owner and comfortably speaks Spanish at an intermediate level. She enjoys Marvin Gaye, outdated bathrooms, religious iconography, yellow beer, Moby Dick, motor lodges, Pina Bausch, mugs that fit in your hand just right and gothic calligraphy.
